Harry Maguire learns new court date for retrial after Man Utd defender initially found guilty for assault and bribery on nightmare Greek holiday

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has learned the date of his retrial in a case that initially saw him found guilty of assault and bribery.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The England international endured a nightmare family holiday on the Greek island of Mykonos in the summer of 2020. Maguire was arrested on the back of an incident that occurred during that vacation.

    He was found guilty of assaulting police officers and attempted bribery following an alleged brawl, with the former Red Devils captain being handed a 21-month suspended sentence. He has always strenuously denied the allegations and saw said verdict overturned on appeal.

    Maguire will now get another day in court in which to completely clear his name. That was due to take place in May 2023, and again in February 2024, but the unavailability of Maguire’s counsel and lawyer strikes in Greece forced delays.

    Another potential hearing in March 2025 was also scrapped, but the reports that all concerned will try again on October 8. Maguire will not need to attend court in person, meaning that he could link up with England if called upon by Thomas Tuchel for meetings with Wales and Latvia in October.
